Speeding car runs over senior citizen on SG Road

anet Thomas, 67, Dies During Treatment



A 67-year old woman, Janet Thomas, who had come to Ahmedabad from Mumbai to spend some time with her daughter's family, died in an accident on the SG Road on November 5 when she was crossing the thoroughfare with her 15-year old granddaughter. She was hit by a speeding car.She died during treatment and a complaint against the absconding car driver was filed with N Division traffic police station on Sunday. City police are hunting for the accused on the basis of CCTV footage of the incident.
Police officials said that the woman's son-in-law, Amit Telange, a resident of Rosewood Estate in Satellite, has filed a complaint against the unknown driver. In his complaint Telange has told police that the family had been to Iskcon Mega Mall on Saturday and was returning home when Thomas and his daughter Prisha, 15, were crossing the road at 5 pm.
“A car sped from the opposite direction and hit the duo.While Prisha sustained minor injuries, Janet was flung on the road and sustained multiple injuries on her head and body. She was taken to a private hospital for treatment where she succumbed to the injuries. A complaint for causing death by negligence was filed at 12.30 am on Sunday,“ said a police official.
BM Lashkari, inspector of N Division traffic police station, said that they have got CCTV footage of the incident on the basis of which they are hunting for the accused.
Sources said that after the incident the car driver stopped and came back but left the spot after the ambulance arrived on the spot. As another car came on the spot quickly, police suspect that the car driver might be living in vicinity.
