Five-foot croc found in palace compound

A five foot long crocodile was rescued from Rajmahal compound in the city on Saturday afternoon.
The reptile was rescued by a team of forest department officials who had rushed to the Laxmi Vilas Palace compound after being informed about the crocodile venturing into the area which is circled by mango orchard.
According to forest department officials, labourers who were working in the farm spotted the crocodile and called wildlife rescue activist Rakesh Wadhwana. Wadhwana and the forest department team reached the spot to capture the reptile. “The crocodile seems to have entered the area after coming out from the tributary of Vishwamitri river that flows adjacent to the compound,“ said an official.

The crocodile was captured after two hours of rescue operation which had begun at around 1pm. By the time forest department's team rushed to the spot, a huge crowd, mostly labourers, had also gathered in the area.
The female reptile also had some minor injury marks on its head. “It seems it has received this injury marks while it was trying to make its way out of the wild weeds and thorns of `gando bawal' that is found in abun dance near the compound,“ said the official.
The crocodile which has been kept at the forest department office in Kamati Baug will undergo medical check-up before it is released. This is the second time that a crocodile had ventured into the palace compound. Earlier on September 30, a seven foot long crocodile was found resting on the palace lawns.
