Dog killed after it bit 10, including four children

It's not just Kerala where extreme steps are taken against stray dogs closer home, residents of Hatkeshwar decided to beat a dog to death after it bit 10 persons on Saturday including four kids.Locals alleged that when contacted over the emergency, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials told residents that their stray-dog vans were engaged. The stray dog was first noticed in the area on Friday, after it bit three-yearold Aruna Shinde below Vrundavan Apartment near Hatkeshwar crossroads at 10 am. The girl's lower lip was bitten off by the dog which also bit another 10year-old.
“Soon after, Kokila Boricha, 60, was getting down the stairs at Karnavati Apartments when the dog bit her on her leg. Her host, Jenti Patel, who came out to see what happened, was also bitten. The dog soon went on a rampage in the area. It also bit a cow and a goat,“ said Harshad Patel, a social worker from Amraiwadi.
As the number of pati ents started increasing at the LG Hospital, the locals contacted AMC to catch the dog and remove it from the area to prevent terror. However, after getting to know that it would take time to send a vehicle, the locals ran out of patience and beat the dog to death, as they suspected that it had gone rabid.

Patel said that dog menace is a reality in many parts of Maninagar, Amraiwadi and Khokhra and timely action is required from the civic authorities to prevent such brutal incidents in the future.
