Gujarati shot dead in Kenya; accused at large

A 35-year-old man hailing from Kutch region was shot dead by unknown as sailants in Ke nya on Satur day. According to local media reports, police are yet to ascer tain identity of the assailants and the reason for the assault.
As per sources, Ramesh Limbani, a native of Dahisara village near Bhuj in Kutch, was staying in Nairobi, Kenya for past eight years. Limbani was associated with stone-cutting industry , they added. He had renewed his foreign card for Ke nya in 2015.
The incident took place when he was visiting the industrial town of Thika, around 40 km Nairobi, on Saturday for business. He was returning in his car when he was shot from close range. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died due to bullet wounds.It was not clear whether the murder took place for robbery .
The family members from Kutch left for Nairobi on Sunday to collect the body as the last rites would probably be performed in Kutch, said sources.
Experts said that Indians play a major role in local economies of several African countries and have associations da ting back hundreds of years.Thus, the incidents of assaults or murders are comparatively less, though stray incidents of robbery involving Indian diaspora are reported now and then. In July this year, Indian and Gujarati community in Congo was at the receiving end when a group of Congolese students was roughed up in Delhi.
“Gujarati diaspora has reported that most assault cases in the US, where the armed robbers barge into the utility stores or shops, turn fatal whenever the attackers face resistence. Apart from a case or two, there are however no hate crimes and the remaining incidents are primarily linked to monetary gains,“ said sources.
